
Ms. Miller Seal is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Music and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. While at IU she studied viola with Alan deVeritch and pedagogy with Brenda Brenner and Mimi Zweig. At UW she was a Collins Distinguished Fellow, and completed her Master of Music under Sally Chisholm. Her early teachers include Marla Hansen and Rictor Noren, and she is a proud alum of a public school music program.
Gwen is a past member of the Madison (WI), Dubuque (IA), Lansing, Southwest Michigan, and Battle Creek (MI) symphonies. She has studied orchestral repertoire with two principal violists of the LA Philharmonic and has had the good fortune to work with many inspiring conductors, such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, James DePreist, Edo de Waart, Jaime Laredo, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Claudio Abbado, and Carl St. Clair.
Ms. Miller Seal spent several years as a member of the indie rock band Pale Young Gentlemen, with whom she recorded the band’s second album. The band toured 37 states and shared the stage with bands including The White Rabbits, Basia Bulat, Andrew Bird, Cloud Cult, and The Dandy Warhols.
Gwen is a dedicated teacher, clinician, coach, and adjudicator, and currently resides in Annapolis.
